My story about how I became the beelady

My name is Sara Russ, and I’d like to share with you the incredible journey that led me to become The Bee Lady. It all started when my husband, Dallas, decided to take up beekeeping…

What teachers are saying about the visits

The bee lady provided an interesting and informative experience when she came to see us at Shelly Park School for both children and teachers.  Her passion and enthusiasm towards bees is inspiring and has made us all aware of the importance of bees.  She worked really well with the children, answering all the questions in a friendly, informative manner that could be understood from age 5 to 55.  It was a great learning experience for the children and held their interest for a lengthy period of time

We always love having Sara visit our school, this in fact would be the fourth time in a row we have invited her back! Sara always shares fantastic information about the honey bee in a variety of ways that keeps the students interest at all times. The presentation at the beginning of the day shares known and new information for the children and always provokes questions that she answers when the classes have their class sessions. The live beehive is always a winner as is the honey tasting. Thanks Sara, see you next year!

Thank you Sara the ‘Bee Lady’ for coming to visit us. We had an awesome morning with you and both the children and teachers gained a lot of new knowledge about bees, including how to care for them, recognising the different members of the hive queen, worker, pupa etc. The children really enjoyed viewing the bees in the hive, making the candles and tasting the honey. There have been many discussions about what we learnt following your visit. After your visit we made a hive and drew the cells for the children to fill in as honey, worker bee, queen bee, pupa, larvae etc. The children made bees and we talked about the body parts head, abdomen, thorax, 6 legs, four eyes etc.

Your visit was a fun morning had by all and a great learning opportunity. The bees are special creatures and we need to look after them.
